Building Bluebonnet Books: A Journey of Stories and Friendship

When I first started Bluebonnet Books, I had no idea just how deeply personal the journey would become. Our very first title, Anchored in Grace by Lisa Schermerhorn—my mom—was more than a book. It was a legacy, a testament to her faith and the strength she’s carried throughout her life. Helping her bring her poetry to the world wasn’t just publishing; it was an act of love, a way to honor her voice and the foundation she laid for me.

From there, Bluebonnet Books began to grow in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Ink, Blood, and Prayer by Kiera J. Gerety came next, and with it came friendship. Kiera’s work is raw, unflinching, and profoundly moving—a deep dive into the struggles of addiction, relapse, and the long road of recovery. Walking alongside her as she put her heart on the page reminded me why I started this press: to give authors a space to share their truth without fear. Along the way, Kiera has become more than an author I publish—she’s a friend.

And then came Crowned by Sacrifice by Alexandria Long, a romantasy filled with visions, sacrifice, and the kind of storytelling that sweeps you into another world. With Alexandria, too, I’ve found not just a collaborator, but a kindred spirit—someone whose imagination inspires me and pushes Bluebonnet Books into new, exciting territory.

Each of these books has been a milestone, not just for the press, but for me personally. Bluebonnet Books is becoming more than a publishing house—it’s becoming a community, a circle of voices that support and uplift each other.

Looking ahead to 2026, I find myself excited for the next chapter: the search for another author to welcome into this growing family. I don’t yet know whose story it will be, but I do know this—every book we publish leaves its mark, and every author adds something irreplaceable to the Bluebonnet journey.

What began with my mom’s words has grown into friendships, stories, and a vision that keeps expanding. And this is only the beginning.
